Virtual Dance Party Welcomes Kindergarten Families to Robbinsdale Area Schools

Kindergarten families attended a virtual dance party on Friday, Sept. 11 to celebrate the first week of school. Michael Rieckenberg, principal of Noble Elementary, put on his disc jockey hat and provided the hand-clapping and toe-tapping tunes that helped the little ones (and their adults) get into a Friday night groove.

“There is nothing cuter than seeing our youngest learners having so much fun and dancing with so much skill, talent and energy,”' said Dr. Stephanie Burrage, Interim Superintendent of Robbinsdale Area Schools. “The dance party gave us an opportunity to connect with families in a fun virtual way, to start the school year as we welcomed them into our district.”

To help get the party started, Kindergarten staff and school mascots from various schools showed off their dancing skills via pre-recorded videos.

Families had the opportunity to dance and listen to music with other kindergarten families by using the Zoom platform. Participants used the chat feature on Zoom to request their family favorite songs -- including Baby Shark, a crowd favorite.

Though it was an online party, DJ Rieckenberg set up his equipment in a school gym, complete with disco lights to give families the experience of a “real school dance.” Nearly 100 families joined the fun and danced the night away.
