Become A Volunteer

Welcome to our program! Our goal is to make a successful match of the volunteers’ interests with the needs identified by the District’s schools and programs we serve. We are committed to a positive experience for our volunteers from the moment of contact with us and throughout the time the volunteer is with our program. Volunteers are an important part of our school community and we value your involvement and dedication.

Please follow these 5 easy steps to successfully determine your volunteer placement:

1). Community Volunteer Defined

  • VIP coordinates only community volunteers. Community volunteers include youth (age 16+) and adults who are not parents nor legal guardians of current students in the district. College students are also considered community volunteers.

  • If you are a parent or legal guardian of a current student who attends a school where you wish to volunteer, please contact the student’s school or program directly about volunteering.

  • Businesses, civic, and faith organizations with employees, members, and congregants who would like to volunteer are welcomed partners.

2). Review the Opportunities Available to Adult and Youth Volunteers

  • CLICK HERE for details on Volunteer Opportunities

  • Opportunities for volunteers include ongoing and one-time commitments, some evenings options are available.

  • Opportunities are available year round.

3). Complete and Return Your Volunteer Application

  • CLICK HERE to access the application on line. Once completed, it will be submitted to VIP electronically.

4). Arrange For Your Interview and Orientation with the VIP Coordinator

  • The time spent together gives us a chance to explore just the right fit for each volunteer, review important District policy information, and prepare the volunteer for the upcoming assignment. The interview lasts about an hour. To arrange for an interview, please contact VIP Coordinator, Jill Kaufman, by phone at 763-504-6991 or by e-mail, at

5). Complete the Background Check, Reference Checks

  • VIP conducts background checks on adult volunteers prior to placement. The VIP Coordinator will provide instructions to complete the background checks.

“I hope that you will consider bringing your time, talent, and willingness to help others to Robbinsdale Area Schools. It will be my pleasure to meet you and find the best volunteer opportunity to match your interests and availability.”- Jill Kaufman, VIP Coordinator
