CHS Marching Band to Perform at State Capitol

CHS Marching Band Selected to Perform at Women’s Suffrage Day Event at the State Capitol on September 8, 2019

Event posterWe are pleased to announce the Robbinsdale Cooper High School Marching Band has been selected as the exclusive high school band to perform at the Minnesota Women's Suffrage Day event on Sunday, September 8, 2019.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for Cooper's band students to commemorate such a historic event, as well as spreading the good word of Robbinsdale School District and Cooper High School. Cooper's contribution to the event will be performing suffrage rallying songs including The March of the Women, Let Us Sing As We Go, and Suffrage Marching Song," said Markus Hahn, Cooper Marching Band Director.

The event commemorates the 100th Anniversary of Minnesota's ratification of the 19th Amendment, which expanded votes for women, will be held at the Minnesota State Capitol from noon to 5:00pm.

“We are thrilled to share Robbinsdale Area School's tradition of musical excellence with the greater community. Our students at Cooper are led by a dedicated educator and we are extremely proud of the Marching Hawks,” said Sara Prindiville, Robbinsdale Area Schools District Arts Coordinator.

Minnesota Women’s Suffrage Day will include:
A Commemorative Program in the Capitol Rotunda with many featured speakers and guests, including:
  • MN Secretary of State Steve Simon; MN Attorney General Keith Ellison; MN Auditor Julie Blaha; MN Supreme Court Chief Justice Lorie Skjerven Gildea; MN Senator Carla J. Nelson; MN Senator Sandy Pappas; MN Representative Anne Neu; MN Representative Dean Urdahl; MN Representative Samantha Vang; Former MN Secretary of State Joan Growe; Josie R. Johnson.
  • Activities at the Minnesota Woman Suffrage Memorial, including a Suffrage Parade and Rally, and recognition of descendants of women represented on the memorial.
  • Marching Band performances from Robbinsdale Cooper HS and the University of Minnesota.
  • Civic Engagement Fair, Voter Registration, Traveling Suffrage Exhibit, Food Trucks & Family Fun!
