Robbinsdale Area Schools is pleased to announce Caroline Wilcox, a senior at Armstrong High School, has been named an Honorable Mention Winner in the 2nd annual national PAYBACK challenge sponsored by Next Gen Personal Finance (NGPF), a non-profit committed to ensuring students leave high school with skills needed to thrive in an increasing complex financial world.

According to NGPF, more than 800 student essays from across the U.S. were submitted earlier this school year. “After playing the award-winning college finance game, PAYBACK, students wrote a 250-word essay…. Teachers nominated the best student essay from their classes. NGPF staff then reviewed the submitted essays, judging them [on three criteria],” stated NGPF in a press release. The national contest awards 10 grand prize winners, and up to two student essays from each state as Honorable Mention Winners.

"Caroline's winning essay in the PAYBACK challenge was truly exceptional and well-deserving of the award,” said James Redelsheimer, AP Economics, Economics, and World History teacher at Armstrong, who submitted Caroline’s essay. “Caroline is a outstanding student who not only is successful academically, but applies her learning of economics and personal finance to make sound financial decisions now and in the future,” he said.

Honorable Mention winners will receive a $500 award from NGPH to be used for educational purposes. Caroline is considering the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., and the University of North Dakota as she continues her post-secondary education.
