Welcome to Academics at Forest Elementary.
Visual arts is taught by licensed art specialists in all grades 1-5, rotated with music, physical education and media. Click here to learn more about art in Robbinsdale Area Schools.
Students have music performance options starting in fourth grade. Students
in all of the elementary schools have the option of starting orchestra
in fourth grade and band in fifth grade. Each year, our music program
consistently produces national recognition and state champions for
all-state choir, band and orchestra.
Gifted Services abound. All
14 schools in our district have services both during the day and
beyond—with Destination ImagiNation (DI), Math Masters and more.
Math instruction teaches
students to use physical objects to show how to solve equations.
They’re seeing concepts come to life through hands-on activities that
helps with retention.
Whole-class literacy block
includes fluency, phonics, phonemic awareness, comprehension,
vocabulary, spelling and writing, supplemented with small group reading
instruction at a child’s instructional level.
Hands-on science activities teach the history and nature of science, earth and space science, physical science, and life science.
Social studies
curriculum focuses on history, humanities and the social sciences to
develop social understanding and to prepare students to become
responsible citizens.
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
is a whole school approach that includes all students and staff in all
school settings. Through implementation of PBIS, schools create a
learning environment that is more engaging, responsive and preventive,
addressing classroom management and disciplinary issues intentionally
and timely, and promotes and celebrates a positive school climate.
Each elementary school has a Response to Intervention (RtI)
block of time every day. During this time, students receive small group
instruction to address their specific learning needs, based on careful
and ongoing formative assessments, whether it is extra time to master
concepts or enrichment time to go deeper with concepts already mastered.
